Fair-workweek presets and the change ledger

Five jurisdiction presets (NYC fast food, Seattle, Oregon, Chicago, LA), set per location. Figures are estimates for planning — not legal advice.

Admins Open in the app

Fair-workweek (predictive scheduling) in Sofia is a rule pack plus a ledger. Auto-Fill and the publish preview enforce the pack. Posted changes record premiums. The numbers are estimates for planning, not legal advice.

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings as an admin.
  2. For each location, pick a jurisdiction preset, follow the org default, or leave a custom override.
  3. Save.

The pack on the location is what the schedule uses. Two stores in the same workspace can have different ordinances.

Any other city can be a custom override: advance notice, clopening threshold and premium (hours or flat), change premium (hours or flat), short-notice flat, cancellation percent.

What the product actually does

  • Advance-notice check in the publish preview — shifts posted inside the window are flagged.
  • Clopening penalty in Auto-Fill scoring, and a flag when a pair still happens.
  • Predictability-pay estimate when you edit, add, or cancel a posted shift, shown before save.
  • Append-only ledger so a later publish cannot wipe what was owed.
  • Access to hours (optional): offer opens to qualified part-timers before filling another way, with an offer window in hours.

It does not file with a city, interpret an edge case your counsel cares about, or replace a lawyer.

Per location, not per org only

Org defaults exist so a new location is not blank. The location's stored preset (or custom) wins. If you move a store from Seattle to a custom pack, existing ledger rows stay; new edits use the new pack.
